Jomtien is located just south of Pattaya and in this blog, we will cover the area that stretches from Pratumnak all the way down to Bang Saray and will therefore also include the Na Jomtien and Ban Ampur areas. In this blog, we talk about what makes Jomtien a great place to live and how you can spend a day in Jomtien. If you are looking for a place to live, we talk about places at the end of the blog.
What to do in Jomtien
Jomtien is quickly developing into a city in its own right and the list of things to do or places to visit increases rapidly. Jomtien Beach has been developed along the 6-kilometer-long beach that stretches from Pratumnak to the beginning of Na Jomtien and the beach remains the most visited attraction with thousands of daily visitors. During weekends and at public holidays, the numbers of beach goers increases significantly.
While Pattaya was the first area on the Eastern Seaboard to start developing from a small fisherman’s village into the city we know today, Jomtien developed much later and many of the attractions typically associated with Pattaya are actually located in Jomtien.
Some of the latest attractions to the Jomtien area also attract the highest number of visitors and these includes two great waterparks, namely Ramayana Waterpark and Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark Thailand
Ramayana Waterpark is the newest of them and opened in May 2016. The waterpark is one of the biggest in Asia and offers 21 exciting waterslides, 2 dedicated kids zones, a huge wave pool and a 600-meter Lazy river. Ramayana has been built to international standards with only premium equipment. The entrance price for adults is 1,190 THB and there are frequently promotions to reduce the entry fee. Children above 122 centimeters pay the same price as adults.
Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark Thailand was opened in October 2014. The waterpark offers 6 different zones of entertainment. 3 zones with water slides and a total of 18 different water slides and 3 zones without water slides which are the Mega Wave, Riptide Rapids and the Surf area zones. The entrance price for adults is 1,590 THB and 1,290 THB for children up to 12 years of age.
Not far from Ramayana Waterpark, you have Silverlake Vineyard which actually is much more than just a Vineyard. The scenery at Silverlake is truly amazing and is ideal for photography with its beautiful and colorful tropical gardens, iconic buildings, lake and the Buddha Mountain in the back ground. Vineyard and Winery tours are offered throughout the day from only 100 THB where you can explore the vineyard and the winemaking facilities. The wine making process is explained during the tours. A restaurant serving fine Italian and Thai food to accompany the vineyard’s own wines is also on the premises which together with the live music in the evening, makes it a great place to enjoy food, wine and good company.
Located just next to Silverlake Vineyard is Buddha Mountain (also known as Khoa Chi Chan) which has a 109-meter-tall and 70-meter-wide image of Buddha engraved on the Northern side of Khao Chi Chan. The drawing was engraved into the mountain at night using a laser so the light from the laser could be seen more clearly. After the laser work, the Buddha image was completed with gold.
Combining a trip to Buddha Mountain and Silverlake Wineyard is perfect for a late afternoon family excursion.
Talking about scenic views and tropical gardens, Nongnooch Tropical Garden is also a great place to visit. Nong Nooch is an all time favorite attraction for tourists visiting Pattaya and opened the gates to the garden back in 1980. Nongnooch was originally a fruit garden but after Ms. Nongnooch had been traveling around the world, she was inspired to change it into a botanical garden and open it for visitors. Today, Nongnooch Tropical Garden is divided into a number of gardens including a French garden, Stonehenge garden, Cactus garden, Orchid & Bromeliad display garden and a flower valley. In addition to the botanical gardens, you can experience traditional Thai dance shows, religious ceremonies, martial arts demonstrations and elephant shows. On the grounds of Nongnooch Tropical Garden, there is also a small zoo and a hotel if you want to stay overnight.
If you need to relax and recover, Jomtien Sauna has become very popular among expatriates and is well worth a visit. At Jomtien Sauna, you can enjoy a large sauna, which has been built solely with materials imported from Finland, a cryotherapy pool (a very cold pool), a large steam room, a large swimming pool and a children’s pool. Around the swimming pool is a large relaxation area where food is also served at very reasonable prices. It’s a great place to regenerate on a Sunday afternoon before the start of the new week.
There are many possibilities for activity in the Jomtien area including some world class golf courses and sail sport activities. For more inspiration about what to do in Jomtien, here are some useful links:
